 “Church of England Church Records”

Presented by: Raymon Naisbitt

The Church of England, or Anglican Church, was the predominant and state religion in England and Wales from 1536. They began keeping church records in 1538. Beginning in 1812, Church of England church records began being kept on printed form. They are amongst the most important record sets for finding our English ancestors before Civil Registration and censuses. Join our presentation with British specialist Raymon Naisbitt from FamilySearch to learn about the various church records created by the Church of England, what information is available for your ancestors, and how to access those records. Various case studies will be demonstrated on how to find an ancestor’s church record online.

Raymon Naisbitt grew up in a home where family history was important and spent much time in his youth roaming cemeteries with his family and learning about his ancestors. He graduated from the University of Utah with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with minors in History and International Studies, and a master’s degree in Instructional Design and Educational Technology. He has served on the Board of Directors for the Utah Genealogical Association, and as a Commissioner for the International Commission for the Accreditation of Professional Genealogists (ICAPGen) and is accredited in England research. He has been employed with FamilySearch for over 20 years and currently manages the British, Nordic, and Asia research specialists in the Family History Library. He is excited to continue the legacy of family history with his wife and two children.
