SOUTH ORANGE COUNTY CALIFORNIA GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY

“Using Deed Books/Land Records to Climb Over that Brick Wall”
Presented by: Kathie Mauzey
and
“Researching Your Family through Stock Certificates”
Presented by Sandy Simmons
Are you using property records in your family research? When property was bought, sold, taxed, or listed in a will, a record was created which can help us learn more about our ancestors. Deed books not only record the buying and selling of land, but many miscellaneous transactions are recorded there as well. At our November meeting, SOCCGS member Kathie Mauzey will show us how to uncover information in land records and deed books.
Few of us think of stock certificates as a part of genealogical research, but anyone who had a relative involved in any public corporation, even as an employee, can use this resource to research genealogy or family history. Join us as SOCCGS member Sandy Simmons shares how he has traced his family’s history and thus his genealogy, through many of these original certificates. Learn how they provide a fascinating tale of his predecessors’ lives, successes and failures, and can be used to tell ancestors’ stories.
PLEASE JOIN US FOR THIS PROGRAM AND ENJOY FREE REFRESHMENTS WITH OUR SOCIETY MEMBERS. THE SPEAKER’S PRESENTATION FOLLOWS A SHORT BUSINESS MEETING.
