“How to Connect Your Family Past, Present and Future through FamilySearch.org”
Presented by: Christine Francis
Would you like to learn how to discover and connect to your family? Does your family start yawning when you mention the word “genealogy”? Come learn some exciting ways to connect them to their ancestors through FamilySearch.org.
This introduction to FamilySearch.org is for the beginner/intermediate or advanced genealogist. FamilySearch (FS) is a free website that has 12 billion records and is adding over 1 billion records each year. Christine Francis will help you feel more comfortable navigating in FS as well as show you some of the collaboration tools between Ancestry and FamilySearch. You will learn how to attach memories in both FS and Ancestry and discover ideas for how to connect your living and future family with your shared history.
There will be a chance for the attendees to follow along if they are logged into FamilySearch.org and populate their tree before attending. If you would like to practice what Christine is teaching – please bring your phone/iPad with the FamilySearch (FS) Tree App downloaded, logged in, and your family tree populated. You may also add Ancestry’s phone app as well. And bring a laptop if you have one. If you do not already have a free FamilySearch account – please create a username and password before class and come logged in on the app. You should also bring your FS login info. (We will not be able to help you do this at the presentation.) You are welcome to stop by the FamilySearch Center at the Mission Viejo church to get some help with creating an account and populating the tree – you will need your apple ID user information and know basic vital information for your deceased relatives to create an account and populate the tree.
